Overview of Project:

The ACCC is working with groups in key API communities to ensure that there is a complete count in the 2010 census. It is well known that certain populations are more likely to be missed in the census, and the consequences are significant for their communities. The census counts have a direct impact on the distribution of federal funds as well as voting power.

Census counts are directly tied to the federal dollars communities receive for important services such as education funding, affordable housing support, job training, social services, roads, bridges, and other community development opportunities. Careful studies of past census counts demonstrate that certain communities are at higher risk of not being counted accurately. These communities include ethnic and racial minorities, transient communities, and the rural poor.

We are contacting organizations that are a trusted voice in their communities, and we are hoping that you will work with us to help ensure that everyone is counted in the 2010 census. We know API and refugee communities are unique, but we hope to serve as a central network and referral source for ideas, volunteers and materials that each organization or individual can then translate, tailor and use for your specific community.

Grant Eligibility Criteria:

Organizations must meet the following criteria to apply for ACCC Census Outreach Mini-Grants.

1) Organizations must work with one of our target communities or other communities that are at risk of undercount.

2) Distribute 250 units of information related to the Census during November through March.

3) Conduct education forums about the Census to at least 35 individuals.

4) Host an assistance forum to assist people in completing at least 50 Census surveys in March or April.

Amount Guidelines:

Organizations meeting our eligibility criteria can apply for a grant awards will ranges from $100 to $500 support their work on reducing a census undercount.

Sample Activities and Covered Costs:

What you decide to do to promote the Census is up to you, and we encourage  you using your knowledge and creativity!  Please go to  Activities for some ideas and examples of what ACCC and other community members are doing.   Unlike Census Bureau grants, the ACCC mini-grant money can be used for virtually any cost related to your Census initiative, including:

1)      Printing costs

2)      Rental fees for booth space at an event

3)      Media advertisement (radio, tv, newspaper, video) or other promotional service

4)     Food to provide at your Census events or meetings

5)    Translation costs

Welcome to the ACCC

Welcome to the Asian Complete Count Committee of Georgia's website! Particularly in the past ten years since the last Census, thousands of Asian Pacific Islanders (APIs) are making Georgia their new home. Georgia now has the second fastest growing API population in the United States.

With this exponential increase, it is absolutely critical that we work together to get every single Asian Pacific Islander, refugee and ethnic-minority to complete their simple, 10-question Census form when it is mailed to them in March 2010.

Please learn more about why Census is important, see what others in our diverse API community are saying and doing to promote the Census, and find ways to get involved.

You absolutely count, and together we can be sure that our entire API community in Georgia counts!!
